Things and Stuff to be happy about

For the ants we went full force with the chemicals, Ortho Home Defense Max. Two months later and we are still good. Crossing my fingers because they said it lasts for 12 months. And we only did the outside of the house we didn't do the inside, the instructions say to do in and out. But with the cat I didn't want to be responsible for it having issues (the instructions say just keep pets away while it is wet but when it dries it is fine, but I don't know that I trust that) if you know what I mean, I want the cat gone but not like that. I told my DH if the outside spray is not enough then he had to do the inside spraying since I did the outside.

I will look into the the steel wool as well, and I did read one thing on line that said chicken wire and the spray-able expanding foam.

The day I came home and found a conga line of ants from the garage, up a flight of stairs, across a hallway and around the corner into my kitchen was the day I called Antimite. Every other month they come and spray the perimeter. No ants in over 6 years.

Better living through chemicals.!!

For ants I used "Terro"...it's a gel. All you do is put a little on a small scrap of paper, and lay them around wherever the ants are. The ants go to it, get stuck or eat it...I dunno. But after a few hours you will see a bunch of ants around the pieces of paper....the next morning they are ALL GONE. Not a single ant will be there. I swear, it's bizarre. Results probably vary depending on types of ants or conditions etc....but this is the best solution for me (and cheapest).

I have a window right over my kitchen sink and every summer there are all these teeny tiny ants. But they are always dead? I try spraying, leaving those little ant bait thingies, I rarely rarely see a live one - but why do they keep dying on my windowsill???

They like to bask in the sun for their swan song?

We use Terro and it normally is AWESOME. This year, not so much. As I said, we got it in the outside version where you sprinkle granules around where you know they are entering your house. As well as the small baits where you put liquid on the paper and the larger plastic baits for inside PLUS even larger plastic baits for outside. We should have no ants at all...

Cool, thanks for that. The only thing is that you're supposed to clean up messes right after they happen. In our house it's when (and if) I find them... The kids still aren't great at cleaning up after themselves (and sometimes neither is hubby...), so we probably have ant heaven. It's hard keeping up with three slobs.

I'm in Japan and having a great time. Things I love:

The shinkensan (bullet train) kicks ass and basically all the trains and subways are so easy and fast and efficent.

The service around here is soooo good and they don't want a tip! They are forever nice and grateful! Today the maids were cleaning rooms and I was in and out of my room doing a little laundry. Each time I left the room and they saw me they had to bow about 5 times and tell me good morning. I was starting to feel guilty for walking by them so many times. Plus they are working their asses off and using the stairs and the still and so nice.

The food is good here too and so many choices.

You can buy a beer in the vending machine. Had we had this in the US as a teenager I would have been drunk more often.

Things that are not so likeable:

The way some people who work in stores drag out their words like arigato gozaimasssssss and they make this noise after all their words. I can't describe it. I bought some Japanese erasers for my kids at the 100 yen store and the girl had to say "ding" after she rang up everyone of them. "Ding" "Ding" "Ding"..... it was comical but a little annoying.

The elevators and escalators talk. You don't need to be told to hold the hand rail over and over and over again.

There are A Lot! of people here. Tokyo is so busy! Sheesh.
